He will be joined by Nicole Wills, a Lung Transplant Foundation mentor who received a lung transplant while parenting an elementary aged child. Together they will share their experiences preparing their young children for their parent’s transplant journey, interpreting children’s unique reactions to medically complex situations, and drawing in community support. Exciting News for Clinical Trial Access: Paid Time Off Initiative ? We're thrilled to share an important article about the "Champions for Change – Paid Time Off (PTO) Initiative," a national effort making it easier for patients, including those with chronic lung disease, to participate in vital clinical trials. This initiative addresses a significant barrier to participation: job-related challenges such as limited paid time off and inflexible work schedules. ? By partnering with employers to provide PTO for employees enrolling in trials, this program ensures that more patients from diverse backgrounds can access cutting-edge treatments and contribute to medical innovation. The American Thoracic Society (ATS), a key partner in this initiative, emphasizes that patient participation is critical for advancing research and improving outcomes for those impacted by chronic lung diseases. ? This is a crucial step towards a more inclusive and effective clinical trial landscape. Learn more about how this initiative is transforming access to research and what it means for our community. Amy Skiba, Executive Director of the Lung Transplant Foundation, attended the?American Thoracic Society (ATS) Annual Conference, where she joined fellow members of the Patient Advocacy Roundtable (PAR) to elevate the patient voice in pulmonary medicine and lung transplant. The conference featured several patient-focused events organized by the PAR, highlighting the importance of lived experiences in shaping research, care models, and public awareness. These sessions provided a platform for patients, caregivers, and advocacy leaders to connect with clinicians and researchers in meaningful ways. Patients had the chance to enjoy lunch with physicians and engage in open conversations, asking questions about a wide range of pulmonary diseases. A highlight of the event was the presentation of two travel scholarships awarded by the Lung Transplant Foundation to promising early-career researchers. These awards supported their attendance at ATS, where they had the opportunity to present their innovative work in lung transplant research. By investing in young scientists, the Foundation continues to encourage progress and collaboration in the field. Lung Transplant Foundation’s participation at ATS underscores our dedication to advocacy, education, and advancing research, with patients at the heart of every effort.
